About the Coalition

The Smoke Free Coalition of Seattle/King County consists of more than 50 members and is growing. The coalition is home to businesses that are big and small, formal and casual, smoking and non-smoking. While some members are associated with businesses that allow smoking, all coalition members support legislation banning smoking in bars and restaurants.

The goals for the coalition are simple. We strive to:

  • Create a voice for businesses committed to smoke-free restaurants, bars and housing.
  • Mobilize business owners to talk to their peers about the benefits of smoke-free establishments.
  • Create a network for information-sharing about operating a smoke-free business.
  • Mobilize interested businesses owners with news and opportunities for action in the event of a proposed ban on smoking in public places.

Coalition membership is free. Members receive the following benefits.

  • Connection to other smoke-free businesses to share information and plan promotions.
  • A quarterly update via email on customer attitudes toward smoking.
  • Information on a possible smoking ban.
  • A coalition logo announcing participation in the coalition. Logos can be used on menus, business cards, table-tents etc.
  • Listing on the coalition website.
  • Mention in advertising and promotions.
  • Opportunity to participate in special promotions negotiated by the Coalition, such as the discounted ad buy through Seattle Weekly.
