West 5 is a smoke-free lounge established in spring 2003 located in West Seattle that opens weekdays at 3:00 p.m. and serves appetizers, soup, salad and pasta with nightly drink specials. This nightclub caters to young professionals establishing their careers.
The owners felt that it was time for an alternative nightclub and the West Seattle area demographic would support a nonsmoking lounge. Another influencer is that the income level of the nonsmoking population is much higher than the smoking population. Appealing to this higher-income level market will draw more customers and drive sales. The owner, according to the manager, is very pleased with the decision to open nonsmoking and encourages other business owners to be part of the smoke-free movement.
